— all in the German language,

Study at Germany's top ranked University
As a JYM student, you'll be enrolled at the prestigious Ludwig Maximilians Universität München (LMU Munich). A vast selection of courses in 150 degree-granting subject areas awaits you, allowing you to experience what it's really like to attend a Germany university in practically any field of study.

Academic Standards of Excellence
The fact that JYM has continued to be the preferred program of choice for more than 50 years for students who really want to study at a German university must say something. JYM undergoes periodic external review to ensure that it meets the highest standards in academic programming, support, and student achievement.

"I have been a fan of the Junior Year in Munich for years and always advise Harvard students to choose this program. I am firmly convinced that it is by far the best study abroad program in Germany." (Prof. Peter Burgard, Harvard University)

Customize your own Study Abroad Experience
Whether you participate in the full-year or one-semester program, you may design your own study abroad experience by combining university coursework with JYM classes, an independant research project or even with an internship. We'll help you design your own program of study in a way that matches your personal goals and interests.

"I loved JYM because it combined the opportunity to study at a great German university with a very helpful support system. I also liked that one can tailor their own experience to their tastes." (Jason, University of Pennsylvania)

Pursue your own Research Project
JYM welcomes and encourages independent study and research. If you need to write a senior thesis, why not begin your research in Munich with the guidance and personal supervision of our resident director, Prof. Hans-Peter Söder (Ph.D. Cornell). Whether your interests include contemporary history and politics, literature and art, theater and film, international business, the sciences or philosophy, the archives and libraries of Munich offer unique opportunities for you to work on any research project you wish to pursue.

Immerse yourself in German Life and Culture
You'll experience Germany as only an insider can. Our insistence upon full immersion and university integration has stood the test of time, and defines how JYM is different from many other study abroad programs in Germany today.
And it won't take long before you discover why Munich is rated the best city in Germany, and the most livable in the world!

"JYM gave me the opportunity to live and mix with a completely different group of people in a new place, experience a new culture and become a member of a new society - all while helping me grow socially, intellectually and learn German!" (Leslie, Principia College)

Acquire German Language Proficiency
JYM provides a German language program throughout the year that accompanies you throughout the various stages of your JYM experience. Before you know it, you'll be dreaming in German!

"Living in the StuStadt was one of the most valuable experiences of JYM. You cannot help but meet other people from other areas in Germany/Europe. Living there forces you to use your German and thus improve your speaking abilities." (William, University of Dallas)

Gain marketable Internship Experience
In today's competitive job market, experience matters. JYM can provide you with overseas internship experience through our extensive international network of business and public sector partners.

"The connections that JYM has are simply amazing. During the semester break I had an internship in the German Bundestag, working directly under a member of Parliament and learning first-hand the way government works." (Matt, University of Pennsylvania)

Discover Germany - Explore Europe
When you study abroad in Germany with JYM, you'll experience more than Munich.
Whether you wish to follow the Romantic Road to Rothenburg, or spend the weekend in Venice, Munich is ideally located to begin all your travels - especially during the two month semester break!

"The greatest part about being in Munich was being able to spontaneously travel to Paris or Rome for a weekend. The freedom to travel around Europe was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." (Peter, University of Pennsylvania)

Venture beyond the Books
JYM encourages independence - from the intellectual risktaker who set out on her own to study comparative urban planning with an internship in the major's office of a major industrial city, to the student who successfully auditioned with one of the university orchestras, to those who gained spots on Munich's baseball, football and soccer teams. JYM is designed to support independence and self-initiative, thereby allowing the program to be as "present" or as "invisible" as each student would like it to be.

"A major value of the program to me was the ability to branch out into German culture, language, academia and sports, while having a solid support staff and JYM base behind me. I had a wonderful experience, but I did a lot on my own using JYM as a starting block." (Corbin, Hamilton College)

Achieve Global Competency
At JYM, we view knowledge, performance, and experience as the pillars of global competency. At the end of the day, by having integrated first-hand knowledge of German society and culture, with verifiable advanced foreign language proficiency and extensive cross-cultural experience overseas, you will have acquired truly meaningful global competency credentials.

"The major value of the program to me was the chance to live in Germany as any German would, the chance to learn the language, meet great people, and to gain some practical experience which looks great on my resume!" (Daniel, Wayne State University)
