JYM Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of JYM alumni, as well as from individual and corporate friends of the program who value the JYM experience, each year JYM is able to distribute approximately $50,000 in scholarship assistance to students in financial need.

Please note that JYM scholarships are reserved for students studying on the full-year program only.

What scholarships are available through JYM?

JYM students are eligible for both single and multiple JYM scholarship awards; only one application form is necessary.

Max Kade Fellowship Grants. The Junior Year in Munich gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Max Kade Foundation which for many years has made it possible for us to award scholarship assistance to participating students.

JYM Alumni Scholarships. Thanks to the generosity of former participants who contribute to the JYM alumni fund drive on an annual basis, we are also able to award JYM Alumni Scholarships each year.

Timothy Dolan Memorial Scholarships. Timothy Dolan Memorial Scholarships have been established in memory of Timothy Dolan (JYM class of 1980-81).

Eugene C. Strobel Memorial Scholarships. The Eugene C. Strobel Memorial Scholarship Fund was established with the generous support of DaimlerChrysler and the World Heritage Foundation in memory of Dr. Eugene C. Strobel, president and founder of the German-American Heritage Foundation International.

Scholarship awards are an expression of the confidence JYM has in your commitment to take full advantage of the JYM experience. We take a number of factors into consideration when making awards, including financial need, the strength of the letter of recommendation from your German professor (submitted as part of the JYM application), any letters of reference (e.g. from your parents) which are included with the scholarship application, and your academic record (with particular emphasis given to grades in German courses).

If I'm receiving scholarships and/or financial aid from other sources (e.g. my home university or DAAD), may I still apply for JYM Scholarship assistance?
Yes, you may still apply for scholarship assistance from JYM.

Do I have to apply to each of the JYM scholarships listed above separately?
No, you only need to complete one scholarship application form.

How do I apply for JYM Scholarships?
Before you can be considered for JYM scholarship assistance, you first have to be accepted to the JYM program. Please do not send in the scholarship application form until you have received your letter of acceptance to the Junior Year in Munich. Once you have been accepted, please download the JYM Scholarship Application that applies to you, complete all sections of the application, and return it to JYM by May 1.
